Investment Management FAQ

Q.

Are my investments insured?

A.

Adamson Wealth Group partners with iA Private Wealth Inc. as our investment dealer. As a division of Industrial Alliance Securities Inc. (iA Securities), they are a member of the Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF) and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC). CIPF was designed to protect your assets in the unlikely event that your investment dealer member becomes insolvent. CIPF will reimburse any shortfall in your account to a maximum of $1,000,000 per separate account held. Coverage is automatic when you open an account and comes at no cost to the investor. CIPF does not cover losses resulting from market fluctuations or from the bankruptcy of a security issuer. For more information, please visit www.cipf.ca. Additionally, the GIC investments we offer are insured by CDIC, up to $100,000 per registration per institution.  https://www.cdic.ca/

Q.

How will you choose which investments go into my accounts?

A.

We will work together to determine which portfolio is best for you based on your risk tolerance, age, goals, income, comfort level, time horizons, investment experience and other factors. Once we get to know you and understand your goals and objectives, we will select an asset allocation for you that we can both feel good about. Asset allocation refers to how much of your portfolio is invested in fixed income securities, equity securities and cash or cash equivalents.

Q.

How do you get paid?

A.

Like lawyers and accountants, we offer value to our clients by providing professional and knowledgeable advice. Many of our clients are on a “fee for service” platform which means that a percentage of their investment portfolio’s value is paid to us for ongoing financial planning and investment advice. This fee is transparent and generally much less than those of “Big Bank” institutions. We explain all fee model options and select the most cost-effective option for each client. Insurance products and referrals to other services may also generate a commission. We are committed to making all recommendations in the best interest of our clients. Compensation from another source is disclosed at the time of the referral.

Q.

What kind of accounts can I open?

A.

We offer almost all types of investment accounts including Canadian and US dollar options. Whether you need a corporate account for your business, a registered plan like an RRSP, RESP, or TFSA, or a joint account with your spouse, we can help.

Q.

How often will my accounts be reviewed?

A.

We are continually monitoring the investments we select for your portfolios. In addition, we review all client accounts twice per year at a minimum. We complete a comprehensive financial review with clients annually, however, reviews may be conducted more frequently if required.

Q.

Is there a minimum level of assets required to open an account?

A.

Typically, our threshold is $250,000+ of investible assets. However, we encourage you to call us to book an initial meeting to determine if our team and services are a good fit for you. We always take on the children or parents of our clients, regardless of where they are in the life cycle. Our practice is very family-oriented.

Q.

Can I transfer my existing brokerage account(s) or a portion held at another institution?

A.

Yes!  We will initiate the transfer from our end and take care of all the details for you.

Q.

Can I set up automatic contributions to any of my accounts?

A.

Yes. We can set up automatic contributions directly from your bank account to suit your budget. This can be done weekly, monthly, bi-weekly, or even semi-monthly. We can also do one-time EFT transfers to move larger sums. For ad hoc deposits, you can set up your accounts in your online banking as a bill payee and contribute any amount, anytime at your convenience.

Q.

Will I have access to view my accounts online?

A.

Yes. We can set you up with online access to view your accounts at any time. You can also choose to receive your monthly statements online instead of paper mailings.
